Labour Market Impact Assessment

Hire Skilled Workers

LMIA

If you are an employer in Canada who wants to hire a temporary foreign worker, you may need to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) before you can do so. A LMIA is a legal document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that confirms there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job and that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do it.

A LMIA is not the same as a work permit, which is the document that allows a foreign worker to enter and work in Canada legally. A LMIA is a prerequisite for applying for a work permit, but it does not guarantee that the work permit will be issued. The foreign worker still has to meet the eligibility and admissibility requirements of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) .

Here at Northern Life, we process three main types of LMIA applications:

  • High Wage

  • Low Wage

  • PR LMIA

Hiring a foreign worker with an LMIA can benefit your business by filling labour and skill shortages, increasing productivity and competitiveness, and enhancing diversity and innovation.

Call or email our team to discuss your options for an LMIA. We will assess your company for free to ensure you are a strong candidate for a LMIA.
